World Oceans Day at the Texas State Aquarium to Feature Eco-Friendly Games and Activities

June 6, 2019

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – This Saturday, June 8, World Oceans Day will be celebrated worldwide as a way for millions to honor and protect our blue planet. At the Texas State Aquarium here in Corpus Christi, guests can join this global celebration on June 8 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. with some eco-friendly games and activities, all included at no extra cost with their admission of membership.

Every visit to the Aquarium includes plenty of chances to discover something new, but on World Oceans Day, explorers of all ages will have even more hands-on, immersive and unique opportunities to learn about sea life and their habitats. The day’s activities include special messaging during wildlife presentations, themed enrichment in animal exhibits, unique photo opportunities and games and activities like recycling corn hole, a sea life detangling challenge and Tic Tac Tocean.

A special focus will be placed on plastic pollution, a conservation priority of the Aquarium, which has eliminated most single-use plastic from its daily operations. Following their lead, guests can take a pledge to use fewer plastic bags, discover what makes plastic such a threat to the ocean with a trash timeline activity that highlights plastic decomposition times or get a look at microscopic plastics with the Dr. Jeremy Conkle Lab of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

By giving guests the chance to put themselves in the fins and flippers of sea life, interact with scientists and encounter animals up-close, the Aquarium hopes their guests will have fun celebrating the ocean and its amazing creatures, but in the process, they also hope to inspire a small wave of change in each guest, that one day, could swell into a generation of conservationists that will help create a better future for our ocean and all of Planet Earth.

The Texas State Aquarium is open daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Access to all exhibits, wildlife presentations, and 4D shows, plus parking, is included with admission. On Saturday, June 8, the Aquarium will have World Oceans Day activities from 10 a.m.  – 3 p.m., included with admission or membership.

Tickets for the Aquarium can be purchased online at www.texasstateaquarium.org for a discount.
