SeaCamp 2016

Summer 2016 is just around the corner, and we are excited to share a summer full of friends, fun and science adventures with your campers! Each and every camp is themed to provide unique learning experiences in the Aquarium, in nature and in the classroom. Campers will be immersed in all things sharks, oceanography and bioinspiration, as well as conservation, careers and Junior Angler! Check out the SeaCamp schedule below to find out which camp works for you.

SeaCamp Philosophy: Our camps and camp environments are designed to support inclusive and collaborative learning, promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) exploration and discovery, and empower campers to reach their full potential.

 

 

How to Register:

Step 1: Click here to pay and register for your camp session

Step 2: Download Parent Packet – SeaSquirt PreK-K or 1st – 12th grade

Step 3: After you have completed Step 1, please complete and submit the camper waiver and forms electronically

Once all three steps are completed, your camper(s) will be officially registered for SeaCamp.

Camp Schedule:

  • Camp programming begins promptly at 9 a.m. Drop-off/check-in begins at 8:45 a.m.
  • Camp ends at 4:15 p.m. (except for SeaSquirts), with pick-up/check-out extending until 5:00 p.m. Late pick-up (after 5:00 p.m.) will incur additional fees of $25 per 15 minutes.
  • SeaSquirts (ages 4-5): 9:00 a.m.-noon or 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (P.M. sessions are noted below). Late pick-up is after 12:15 p.m. or 4:15 p.m., and will incur late fees

Cancellation/Refund Policy: A cancellation notice must be received, in writing; at least 30 days prior to camp start date for a 50% refund.  We do not offer refunds or pro-rated fees due to illness or weather conditions. See Parent Packet for additional information.

 

 

 

SeaSquirts (PreK-K, ages 4 and 5) 

Explore ocean animals in this fun-filled camp designed specifically for young learners. Creative play, science discovery, and storytelling add to the adventure as campers investigate the Aquarium’s unique habitats and animals. SeaSquirts is a four day camp with half-day sessions (*Monday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – noon or 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.) Campers will visit the Splash Park.

Member: $125   |   Non-Member: $150 

Time: Camp ends at 4:15 p.m. (except for SeaSquirts), with pick-up/check-out extending until 5:00 p.m. Late pick-up (after 5:00 p.m.) will incur additional fees of $25 per 15 minutes.

Around the World in Five Days!   |  Campers entering 1st grade Fall 2016

Learn about unique ocean habitats as you embark on a high-seas adventure around the world. “Travel” to a new location each day – from the Gulf of Mexico to the Amazon to the deep ocean- to discover amazing animals and their unique adaptations for survival. Science activities and crafty mementos will highlight this unforgettable voyage around the world. Camp includes a visit to the Splash Park.

Sharks & Friends   |  Campers entering 1st grade Fall 2016

Sharks, skates, and rays, oh my! Learn about sharks, and their flat-bodied relatives the skates and rays, during this special week!  Visit and touch the sharks and rays living at the Aquarium, discover where they live in the ocean and how they survive in their watery habitats. Shark and ray science activities and crafty mementoes will highlight this fun-filled week. Camp includes a visit to the Splash Park.

Operation: Exploration!   |   Campers entering 2nd or 3rd grade in Fall 2016

Explore how animals have adapted to living in the diverse habitats of the Gulf of Mexico! Exciting hands-on science activities, along with fun water activities, such as paddle boating and pool play, make this educational adventure tons of fun. Campers will visit amazing Aquarium habitats, make scientific discoveries and take home creative self-made souvenirs. Camp includes water activities/play and certification in the Junior Angler Program.

Sharks Alive!   |   Campers entering 2nd or 3rd grade in Fall 2016

Explore the ocean for one of its most ancient inhabitants – Sharks! Learn about shark adaptations and diversity, and discover which sharks make the aquarium their home. Exciting hands-on science activities, shark investigations and meet & greet encounters with real sharks make this a camp one to remember. Camp includes water activities/play.

Only One Ocean   |   Campers entering 2nd or 3rd grade in Fall 2016

Visit the ocean top to bottom to discover unique habitats, diverse animals, and incredible ocean features. Campers will become scientists as they explore technology, dissect squid, and identify “mysterious” fish. Exciting hands-on science activities, visits to the Aquarium, and an introduction to fishing will showcase the importance of the ocean to our everyday lives, and how we can respect and protect it. Camp includes water activities/play.

Guardians of the Sea!   |   Campers entering 4th or 5th grade in Fall 2016

Jump into the ocean realm with us! Think and act like an ocean naturalist as you explore ocean biomes around the world, investigate local marine habitats and conduct observations of the Aquarium’s diverse plant and animal wildlife. Uncover the mystery of how animals survive in their unique environments and how they adapt to our ever-changing world. Hands-on science projects, creative activities and animal encounters will fill the week with fun and excitement. Camp includes water activities, a mid-week overnight stay at the Aquarium, and certification in the Junior Angler Program.

Shark-ology   |   Campers entering 4th or 5th grade in Fall 2016

Become a marine scientist as you investigate local and distant ocean environments to discover which sharks and rays live there, how they survive and why they are so misunderstood. Camp includes water activities and a mid-week overnight stay (Aquarium).

Exploring Our Blue Planet   |   Campers entering 4th or 5th grade in Fall 2016

Dive into ocean exploration and unravel the mysteries of our “blue planet.” Become a scientist as you investigate local aquatic habitats from a canoe and learn about the diversity of marine ecosystems, near and far. Chat with real scientists, perform a squid dissection, and explore Aquarium habitats. Each day brings a new adventure and a new discovery. Camp includes water activities/play and a mid-week overnight stay at the Aquarium.

Naturally Inspired   |   Campers entering 4th or 5th grade in Fall 2016

Learn how scientists and engineers use nature to solve problems – big and small – as you investigate how nature adapts for survival. Use critical thinking and creative design to craft “natural” solutions to a series of real-world challenges. Explore a local wetland, the Aquarium and nearby shorelines for inspiration. Camp includes water activities/play and mid-week overnight stay (Aquarium).

Explore Your Coast!   |   Campers entering 6th or 7th grade in Fall 2016

Channel your inner scientist as you explore the world of marine biology. Start your investigations at the Texas State Aquarium and local marine environments as you kayak, make your discoveries and share your findings. Continue your exploration as you visit Padre Island National Seashore and the bays of Rockport. This week full of hands-on science projects, field explorations/excursions and fun just can’t be missed. Camp includes water activities/play, daily field trips and a mid-week overnight stay at the Aquarium.

Trekking Land & Sea   |   Campers entering 8th or 9th grade in Fall 2016

Science and discovery are the focus of this unforgettable SeaCamp. Trek into adventure as you explore the Aquarium from “behind the scenes” to learn about diverse habitats, animals, and careers. Continue exploring at Welder Wildlife Refuge for an overnight stay and day full of field and science investigations. Take part in the scientific process as you observe and share your discoveries and experiments during the Archimedes boat trip.  Camp includes water activities, daily field excursions, and a mid-week overnight stay (Welder).

Expedition: Science!   |   Campers entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in Fall 2016

Surf, trek and kayak into science as you hone your skills as a Coastal Bend naturalist.  Daily adventures and investigations take you to a riparian habitat, Port Aransas Wetlands, an Archmides boat trip, a research institution, and a surf lesson – all in the name of science!  Observe, sample, experiment, and share as you practice the scientific process and learn more about diversity of science-based careers.  Camp includes water activities, daily field excursions and two mid week overnight events (Welder and UTSMI)
