CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Texas State Aquarium (TSA) is pleased to announce its nomination for the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Award for Best Aquarium in North America. The Texas State Aquarium is one of 20 contenders vying for the top 10 spots, and is the only nominee from Texas.
To arrive at the nominees, the USA TODAY editorial team utilized data provided by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA.org), a trade association which holds its members to the highest of industry standards. Data including annual visitor count, square footage, total aquarium gallons, membership numbers, affordability of entrance fees, awards won and commitment to conservation efforts were some of the components weighed. TSA President & CEO Tom Schmid says, “It was great to hear we made it into the Top 20 Best Aquariums. This group includes the largest and finest aquariums in North America. We recognize that our aquarium is not among the largest facilities, but I think it’s the quality of our programming and team members that makes us competitive with these larger institutions.”
Voting is open now and ends August 18th at 11:59 a.m. EDT. The public can vote once per day, per category at the following link: http://www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-aquariums/.
